Say an election is coming and your strongest candidate is fairly weak. What do you do? You make everyone look one way, while you hit somewhere else. In the lead-up to the election, you present a bunch of absolutely terrible candidates. You get the insane human equivalents of piles of shit and parade them around loudly. Everyone goes mental. Your supporters, your critics, the media has a frenzy. These scarecrows that you’ve put up run around shouting “Ban porn!” and “God told me to run in this election” and other attention grabbing nonsense. Meanwhile, while everyone’s looking that way, you let your boy slowly stride forward.
By the time he’s the only man left he’ll look pretty damn great. He will have been the ‘strongest’ contender by default, but the considerable gap between him and the people he was running against will seem like it speaks volumes about his ability, rather than theirs. In a bar where all of the guys are drunk and ugly, you just might let the average looking guy take you home.
So here stands Mitt Romney. He’ll be running against Obama.
And all I’m seeing on Tumblr is leftover frenzy for the other guys. Jokes about Michelle Bachmann’s eyes. Santorum quotes. Cain’s sex scandals. Think about it; Compared to this buzz, how much negative Romney do you see? How much positive Obama? Because the ratio is like ten to one from where I’m sitting. But if Romney is president you’re not going to remember them. You’re going to be too busy wondering what happened to reminisce.

Anyway, what do I care if it’s Obama vs. a series of mentals? I’m not American, I don’t get to vote. BUT I repeat my opinion online because it does affect me, it affects the whole world, and I don’t feel guilty about making my voice heard. In a tiny, insignificant way.
And after all, isn’t that what voting’s all about?
Anti-Vasectomy Act of the Day: Lawmakers in Georgia are the latest to hop aboard the prove-a-point legislation train that’s already made stops in Virginia, Oklahoma, and Mississippi.
Georgia Democrats held a hearing today in the state House on an anti-vasectomy bill, which aims to point out the hypocrisy inherent in a majority male legislature restricting the reproductive rights of women.
“Thousands of children are deprived of birth in this state every year because of the lack of state regulation over vasectomies,” bill author Rep. Yasmin Neal (D-Riverdale) said in a statement. “It is patently unfair that men can avoid unwanted fatherhood by presuming that their judgment over such matters is more valid than the judgment of the General Assembly, while women’s ability to decide is constantly up for debate throughout the United States.”
At the heart of the purposely ludicrous protest is House Bill 954, which seeks to criminalize abortions from the point at which “the fetus can sense pain.” According to the legislation’s author, Rep. Doug McKillip (R-Athens), his bill would make abortions illegal seven weeks prior to the limit set by Roe v. Wade.
McKillip took issue with the anti-vasectomy bill, saying it “make[s] light of something as important as protecting life.” House Democratic Leader Stacey Abrams countered that McKillip’s bill is hypocritical.
“If we follow his logic,” she said, “we believe it is the obligation of this General Assembly to assert an equally invasive state interest in the reproductive habits of men and substitute the will of the government over the will of adult men.”
McKillip, formerly a Democrat, made headlines in 2010 for switching parties shortly after being elected chairman of the Democratic caucus.

The lies go beyond instantly dismissible claims like President Obama being the “food stamp president” (why you have to go back one whole administration to discover that more people joined the food stamp ranks under Bush than Obama, but then the Republicans don’t seem to remember Bush in any case). The blatant lies extend through every aspect of the Republican platform, such as it is. The simple reason is that the Republicans have no ideas left, at least no ideas that have not been tested and proven to be failures again, and again, and again.
The economy didn’t just crash under a Republican president, it crashed under Republican policies. It crashed with low taxes. It crashed with deregulated markets. It crashed with huge restrictions on union activity. It crashed with massive cuts in environmental regulations. It crashed with lowered trade barriers. It crashed with big fat Pentagon spending.
They got what they wanted. They got CEOs with no limits on their wealth. They got banks with no limits on their “creativity.” They got trade agreements that guaranteed manufacturing could be moved to the dirtiest, cheapest, most desperate source available. They got massive cuts in capital gains taxes and equally large boosts in the wealth they could pass along in estates. They got everything they said would make us all wealthy. They got record oil and gas drilling. They got record giveaways of public land. They got everything they said would create jobs. They got the middle class to shoulder more, more, more of the burden so that those beautiful job creators would be free to work their magic.
They can’t say the economy crashed because taxes went up, because they didn’t. They can’t say that the economy crashed because there was a raft of new regulation, because there wasn’t. They can’t blame it on “union thugs” or Saul Alinsky or the guy who writes Happy Holidays cards at Hallmark. They can’t blame it on a president who was elected when the world was already in free fall. Only, of course they do. They say it because they have no choice.
For the same reason that they have to maintain that global warming is the creation of a conspiracy of scientists, and that evolution is a conspiracy of other scientists, and that gay marriage is a threat to “traditional” marriage. They have to lie about the threat of illegal immigrants. Lie about the state of the national debt. Lie about the effects of the President’s health care plan. They have to lie, because lies are all they have left.
